ABSTRACTION | Lesbian Short Film

Ingrid was plagued with vivid dreams when she met Norah, a fellow lucid dreamer. When Norah proposes they undertake a drug-induced sleep experiment, influenced by the chemistry between them, Ingrid accepts her 'melatonin' and together they journey through their dreamscapes, while Norah takes control. After a dark twist, Ingrid loses grip of her surroundings and desperately fights to take back control of her reality.

Director’s Statement:
"Coming out as a lesbian at 15 years old was incredibly isolating, struggling to relate to my peers and navigate a patriarchal society with little guidance; I grew up seeking out harmful representations of my identity in cinema- and I made a vow to change this. ABSTRACTION is told through the female gaze, and offers an honest perspective on identity, vulnerability and control, diverting away from the typical surface-level conventions of queer women on screen, and creating narratives that pull away from the characters' sexuality.

Taking control and creating a space for queer women to be in charge of our own narratives is a value I wanted to bring to my practice, and widen the scope of genres where gay characters are the main characters. To experience working with a number of queer women on this film was a full-circle moment and ABSTRACTION remains a love letter to all the queer girls who felt on the outside." - Molly Hunstone
