Does the intensity of energy in your system feel destabilizing? Drawing from classical Tantra frameworks as well as modern lived experience, this episode is focused on practical guidance, tips, and suggestions for those experiencing "energetic overload," or something like it. It emphasizes the importance of grounding, discernment, and caring for the nervous system when one's experiences feel destabilizing. ~ DISCLAIMER: since individual cases vary widely, any of these suggestions might be the wrong ones for any given person. Use your own discernment, and if any of your symptoms could have a medical cause, please see a medical professional. If any of your loved ones think you should see a mental health professional, please do so. None of these suggestions can substitute for mental health care when that is required.
“Cheat sheet” for the suggestions in the video . . . this summary does NOT mean you don’t need to listen to the recording. there’s much more detail there.
*When there is just too much energy/shakti/kuṇḍalinī:*
1. Stop practicing excessively. Limit your practice to no more than 24 minutes per day. Temporarily eliminate activating practices, and just do calming/grounding type practices. If *any* kind of practice is over-activating, then cease practicing altogether for awhile, other than the practices listed below.
2. Lie on the earth and let excess energy flow from your body into the earth. let your back body merge into the earth while directing the breath all the way down to the lower abdomen. Tune into the center of vitality, which is also the center of gravity, in the low belly. (If you feel heavy or dark, let the front half of the body become spacious and open like the sky while the back half remains deeply connected to earth.) also, throughout the day, become aware of the soles of your feet and feel/imagine excess energy flowing out through the feet and into the earth.
3. Nourish yourself with grounding foods. Look up “vāta-pacifying foods” on an Ayurveda website for examples. this might include eating meat or dairy temporarily, even if you are vegetarian/vegan. ‘tamasic’ foods are indicated when you’re very ungrounded or when Kuṇḍalinī is overactive.
4. Moderate exercise almost every day.
5. Co-regulation with the most grounded & calm person you know. If possible, be in the company of someone who had a strong K.A. and is now super stable and grounded.
6. Do the River of Light meditation on the T.I. learning portal, or any other soothing release practice.
7. Once a day, or a few times a week, lie on the bed or carpeted floor and let yourself shake, vocalize, scream — whatever facilitates release. Don’t do this for more than 10 or 15 minutes. Do this in a safe space.
8. Sensual meditation every day — e.g. explore the bark of a tree, touch and fondle leaves, lie on the ground and watch insects go about their business, smell flowers, have a mud bath, etc. — whatever immerses you in sensual experience.
9. Abhyanga or massaging your body with vāta-pacifying Ayurvedic oil (several times a week at least).
10. Kuṇḍalinī Stavaḥ & prayer. ( https://www.siddhayoga.org/practices/chanting/hymns/kundalini-stavah/ )
