In Vedic Philosophy, the term Nivritti describes a focus on spiritual development. On this path, attention is directed away from the external world and towards the transcendental or Divine. In Kundalini or tantric practices, Nivritti mirrors the ascension upwards through the chakras & sushmana to experience universal awareness.

In contrast, Pravritti is the path of taking action and living with a focus on the external world. Sometimes Pravritti is described as inferior to Nivritti.

However, I propose that the best way we can show love in the world is to use both paths. We do the work to ascend, experience something greater than ourselves, and then take action in the world.

This class emphasizes moving upwards through the chakras and bandhas followed by grounding in the physical world and a mantra for protection. No matter what happens November 3rd, there will be abundant work to do. By using Pravritti, we are prepared to do the best we can to show love in the world.
