Track 4 from their fifteenth album “Counterparts” released in 1993 copyright Anthem Records. It was their seventh recorded at Le Studio in the Laurentian Mountains near Morin Heights, Quebec. Additional sessions were recorded at McClear Pathe in Toronto. Although the band had agreed to create new material with an emphasis on guitar, tensions arose when Geddy brought all of his keyboards into Chalet Studios at the country house in Ontario where they held their writing sessions. Although they admitted the situation was volatile, they were able to settle their musical differences and write the music for a great album. The band was eager to work with a new producer but they had also noticed the growth of their previous co-producer Peter Collins and met with him to discuss his ideas. Both parties envisioned a similar project and were enthusiastic to work together again. Collins enlisted the late, great Michael Kaman to arrange and conduct the orchestra on “Nobody’s Hero.” The album was another successful release and received above average reviews. It reached No. 14 in the U.K., No. 13 in Finland, No. 6 in Canada and No. 2 on the Billboard chart. It’s been certified Gold in the U.S. and Platinum in Canada. The instrumental “Leave That Thing Alone” received a Grammy nomination for “Best Rock Instrumental Performance” but lost to Eric Johnson’s “Cliffs of Dover,” which was another amazing and deserving song. The Allman Brothers Band and Yes were also nominated that year. This was their thirteenth album cover designed by Hugh Syme, who would be involved with all their subsequent releases. Written by Neil Peart, Geddy Lee & Alex Lifeson and produced by Peter Collins & Rush. RIP Neil Peart & Michael Kaman. Featuring:

Geddy Lee – Lead vocals, bass, synthesizers & background vocals
Alex Lifeson – Lead, rhythm & acoustic guitars
Neil Peart – Drums & acoustic and electronic percussion
Special Guests:

Michael Kaman – Orchestral arrangements & conductor on “Nobody’s Hero”

I knew he was different in his sexuality
I went to his parties as a straight minority
It never seemed a threat to my masculinity
He only introduced me to a wider reality

As the years went by we drifted apart
When I heard that he was gone I felt a shadow cross my heart

But he’s nobody’s hero
Saves the drowning child, cures a wasting disease
Hero
Lands the crippled airplane, solves great mysteries
(Hero)
Not the handsome actor who plays a hero’s role
(Hero)
Not the glamour girl who’d love to sell her soul
If anybody’s buying, nobody's hero

I didn’t know the girl but I knew her family
All their lives were shattered in a nightmare of brutality
They tried to carry on, tried to bear the agony
Tried to hold some faith in the goodness of humanity

As the years went by, we drifted apart
When I heard that she was gone I felt a shadow cross my heart

But she’s nobody’s hero
Is the voice of reason against the howling mob
(Hero)
Is the pride of purpose in the unrewarding job (in the unrewarding job)
(Hero)
Not the champion player who plays the perfect game
(Hero)
Not the glamour boy who loves to sell his name
Everybody’s buying, nobody's hero

As the years went by we drifted apart
When I heard that you were gone I felt a shadow cross my heart

But he's nobody's hero
Saves the drowning child, cures a wasting disease
(Hero)
Lands the crippled airplane, solves great mysteries
(Hero)
Not the handsome actor who plays a hero’s role
(Hero)
Not the glamour girl who’d love to sell her soul
(If anybody’s buying, nobody's hero)
(Nobody's hero)
(Hero)
(Nobody's hero)
(Hero)
(Nobody's hero)
