The term 'tantra' consists of two Sanskrit words, combined together. The first one is 'tanoti' (which means expansion), and the second is 'rayati' (liberation). Which is why we can deduce that 'tantra' signifies 'the liberation of energy and expansion of consciousness'. This term describes a way to enhance human mind and to free the sleeping potential energy. Its rules, which regulate the basic principles of all yoga exercises. Because of that, Tantra writings include techniques, which help to achieve a result. The purpose of Tantra is to explore and identify this part of human consciousness that is deeply concealed, because of it, we can keep the balance, improve our spirituality & the connection with universe.
Tantra texts & practices incorporate a great number of topics. They mostly refer to spirituality, and not to sexuality. However, Tantrism is known in the West countries, and it is viewed as a practice that contains an esoteric eroticism and sex (in the form of rituals). But the truth is, the most Hindu and Buddhist Tantra scriptures don't mention extreme elements of sex rituals at all. Of course, emotions and sensuality (and sex too) appear in books about Tantra as something natural, even desirable, since it is referred to as a method of inner transformation. The deity will then touch the bliss of Shiva. According to Tantra, Kama and sex is a different aspect of life. Its goal is far beyond the act of procreation because it is a journey to spiritual fulfillment.
