In this video, I explain how one day, at the Kumbha Mela I had a fascinating conversation with a Bhairav and a Bhairavi about sexuality and spirituality. While in their tent, I observed that they call one another Baba and maa, which really shocked me and I asked them openly as to how they could refer to one another in that fashion if they were copulating as man and wife.

That got the Mahabhairav talking and he explained how at the root of tantric teachings is the fact that the TANTRIC MUST INVOKE KALI AS HIS LOVER. For the woman, she MUST EMBRACE SHIVA AS NONE OTHER THAN HER LOVER. Kali is not a mother at the beginning when there is no one to MOTHER. Only once her copulation with Shiva has created reality, only then can she become the mother.

There is only one DIVINE FEMININE, but multiple BHAVAS like mother, sister, lover which was created by society for smooth functionality, day to day. This copulation of the tantric as Shiva and taking his Bhairavi(consort) as Shakti is why many think that tantra is about orgies and sexual deviation.

The purpose of tantra is way deeper...it is to transcend all duality. In that gukjjhya state, KALI is neither mother NOR lover. She is pure unalloyed bliss and that is moksha. The Tantric then realizes what KALI is and what she is NOT. Then he sees her as KEVALANANDAMAYI. Pure truth, beauty and joy.
